The Indian Railway is going to set up its training institute to impart training to its officials.

For this an Indian Railway Institute of Financial Management will be set up in Secunderabad.

Course Details :


Diploma in Rail Transport and Management

  • Correspondence course conducted by Institute of Rail Transport, New Delhi.
  • The duration of the course is one year from May - June every year.

  4. Logistics & Supply Chain Management
  5. Costing & Pricing of Rail Transport Services
  6. Human Resource Management in Indian Railway

  8. Planning, Financial Management & Investment Policies
  • Lessons are printed in Hindi and English.
  • Lessons of the course are in easy language, to be understood even by the persons who have no previous knowledge of railway working.
  • The diploma has been recognized by the Ministry of Railways as additional desirable qualification for recruitment to categories of Assistant Station Master and Traffic/Commercial Apprentice and for supervisory grades in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering and other department of Railways.
  • Courses offered by Institute of Rail Transport (IRT) are recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC) of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

Diploma in Railway Engineering
  • Conducted by The Institution of Permanent Way Engineers
  • One year Correspondence Course comprises of two semesters of 6 months each.
  • Eligibility:
  1. Railway employees: High School/SSC or equivalent qualification with maths or science and having a minimum of 3 years experience over Railways or a Graduate with Maths or Science as one of the subjects in Intermediate/Plus 2 of SSC.
  2. Non-Railway persons:  3-years Diploma holder in any discipline of Engineering recognised by Central/State or UT Government or a Science/Engineering Graduate or a Graduate having had Maths or Science as one of the subjects in Intermediate/Plus 2 of S.S.C.
  • Course Fees:   
Semester-I Semester-II
(i) Railway Personnel (Serving) Rs. 1500 Rs.1900
(ii) Non-Railway persons Rs.2000 Rs.2400
(iii) Optional Contact Classes Rs. 1500 Rs.1500
  • Approved by Ministry of Railways as an additional qualification for promotion to all selection posts for Railway employees in Group C Category.
  • Course contents
  • Semester I covers basic knowledge of Railway working in the fields of   General Management of Railways, Civil Engineering (Works); Civil Engineering (Track),  Civil Engineering ( Bridges),  Signal & Telecommunication Engineering; Operational Management,   Commercial Management,  Stores/Material Management, Personnel Management, Financial Management of Railways & Railway Accidents & Safety measures.
  • Semester-II covers basic knowledge of Railway working in the field of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and specialized knowledge of Permanent Way Engineering, which includes Track structure, its Maintenance and Modernisation, Works, Bridge Engineering, Survery and construction of Railway Lines, Railway Sidings and Disaster Management.
