Sharmila Reddy of Jagan Mohan Reddy's sister Take Care of Party

38-year-old Sharmila Reddy has embarked on an ambitious pan Andhra Pradesh road show to win wider support for her detained brother Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to usher in YSR Congress rule and fulfill what their father envisioned for the state.

It is for the first time that a woman is setting out on such an odyssey in the state's political history.

On October 18, after paying homage at her father's grave, on the family estate in their native Idupulapaya village in Kadapa district, Sharmila, sporting a black ribbon, began the 3,000 km walkathon in a longer and more intensive trek than her father's 1,700 km Maha Prasthanam between April 9 and June 13, 2003.

Her long march Maro Praja Prasthanam is likely to take about six months.

Heralding her arrival is a theme song 'vastunnayi vastunnayi Jaganadha rathachakra ostunnayi' (The wheels of Lord Jagannath's chariot are rolling in) inspired by the lines of legendary Telugu poet Sri Sri and his magnum opus Maha Prastanam.

The song written by popular Telugu lyricist Anantha Sriram and sung by Vandemataram Srinivas says Jaganmohan Reddy has deputed Sharmila as his representative to assure the people that their problems will be solved when the YSR Congress comes to power.

Sharmila mass contact plan is to listen to people's grievances along her way, deviate from the main routes to visit villages in the interior to emphathise with the distraught and gather first hand their gripes about governance in the state.

At select places, she is to address rallies launching nuanced attacks on the ruling Congress and how it has altered or scuttled different welfare programmes, taunt and target the rival TDP for going soft on the Congress, challenge it to move a motion of no-confidence against the Kiran Kumar Reddy ministry and speak of how her family has become a victim of politics of vendetta.

Sharmila is aware of how to take the issues to an emotional level and sway the audiences having travelled extensively with her evangelist husband Brother Anil Kumar.

The YSR Congress game plan is to turn Jagan's prolonged absence into a tactical advantage and enable him to continue the journey when he is out of prison on bail.

The party is against taking any chances and losing time just in case the assembly elections as well as the Lok Sabha elections are advanced. For evocative appeal, Sharmila, like her father did in 2003, is also to stay at makeshift facilities during her travel.

Son of Sardar Review

Movie: Son of Sardar (2012)

Starcast: Ajay Devgn,Sonakshi Sinha,Sanjay Dutt,Juhi Chawla,Mukul Dev,Vindu Dara Singh

Director: Ashwni Dhir

Producer: Ajay Devgan,N.R.Pachisia,Pravin Talreja

Banner: Viacom 18 Motion Pictures

Release Date: November 13, 2012

A remake of the south classic by master filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, Son of Sardar is the story of Ajay Devgn, who returns to his village to sell off his ancestral property. At the station, he bychances to meet Sonakshi Sinha & therein begins, one of the most unromantic love tracks Bollywood masala films have seen in a while. Befriending Sonakshi, he lands up at her house, unknowingly meeting her uncle, Sanjay Dutt, who, in a very cliched track to this film, wants to avenge the feud his family had with Ajay's father.Alas, he believes in 'Athithi Devo Bhava' & thats the base of the film. He wants to kill Ajay but wont do it in the house.

The first half genuinely has a few laughs but its all downhill at an alarming pace from there on. I actually enjoy masala bollywood crap, but this is just boring. The songs by Himesh are also very weak. The latter half & climax are deafening & cringeworthy. Ajay Devgn as the naive, innocent Sardar really doesn't fit into the 'Son of Sardar' mold & his physicality doesn't help much either. Sonakshi really needs to shed a few kilos. Juhi Chawla is effervescently charming. The music by Himesh is a major downer. Salmans cameo is milked completely & is whistle worthy. Director Ashiwinis Dhir's last films title would be more apt for this one, "Atithi tum kab Jaaoge".

Poda Podi Review

Release date: 13 November 2012

 Poda - podi ,

calls himself an animation designer in the film, but he is either sleeping or dancing in clubs for most part. Nisha, played by Varalaxmi, is an aspiring salsa dancer with a goal to win a ‘Letz Dance’ competition in London. Arjun and Nisha meet in a club and share a few drinks one lazy evening. Few days later, they’re madly in love with each other. Arjun, who’s an Indian, and moreover a Tamilian by birth, aspires to change Nisha before marriage. Nisha, born and raised in London, is completely against culture and society. When Nisha refuses to change some of her qualities for good, Arjun calls off their relationship. And they sulk for few days before reuniting with the intention of marriage.

Things change drastically post-wedding for Nisha and Arjun. While Nisha wants to closely dance with her salsa partner, Arjun intervenes citing her marital status. With her dance competition just three weeks away, Nisha should choose between her life or dance partner. Who will Nisha choose forms the rest of the story.

Poda - podi  presents itself as a modern-day love story, but it definitely isn’t. The film is a desperate attempt to catapult the actor’s image to one of the best dancers in the film industry, while Varalaxmi proves her mettle as one of the best dancers in the newcomers’ category. Never in its entire running time does the film strike a chord with the audience. Does the director want to prove that small adjustments in a relationship pave way to a happy and healthy ending? But on the contrary, he crushes his own philosophy by proving that if one gives in to adjustments, then he or she will suffer its consequence forever.

STR, in a desperate attempt to be the next superstar, fails miserably in his role. His character in this film is completely opposite to the one he played in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, but he still seems to have maintained a subtle sarcasm in his acting, which he assumes, is his forte, but it’s definitely not. The film throws plenty of opportunities for the actor to dance, but he awaits his moment until the climax.

Varalaxmi doesn’t even spare a single moment to dance. Undeniably, she shines as a dancer, but she should definitely find herself a dubbing artist. Her voice reminds of Rani Mukerji’s voice in some of her earlier films such as Mehndi and Ghulam. She definitely needs to work on her expressions and most importantly on her diction if she plans to continue dubbing for herself.

As far as music is concerned, barring the Love pannlama track, which is a bad rip-off of Eminem’s Real Slim Shady, the rest of the album helps the film to maintain some interest.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan - Review

Movie: Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)

Starcast: Shahrukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif

Director: Yash Chopra

Producer: Aditya Chopra

Banner: Yash Raj Films

Release Date: November 13, 2012

Jab Tak Hai Jaan is a sprawling love affair spanning over a decade having the splendiferous King Khan at its center and a sure handed direction by the master storyteller, Yash Chopra sahib! It is indeed a poetic dream come true with its canvas being flushed with sumptuous imageries of London and jaw dropping splendors of the valleys in Kashmir and Ladakh.

From far off, JTHJ may feel like yet another run-of-the-mill-romance-flick. On scraping the shiny surface, you will find a heartfelt account of passionate sentiments and eternal love that is tying people in a knot which is unbreakable even by the highest forces existing in this realm!

It follows the arc of Major Samar Anand, who heads the Bomb Defusal Squad for the Indian Army and is proclaimed as ‘The Man Who Cannot Die’. Enters a dreamer; the effervescent Akira Rai (Anushka Sharma), who walks over a personal diary of our soldier. Roll back to flashback and we are introduced to the wounded love affair of the same man to an exceptionally rich mademoiselle Meera (Katrina Kaif), the Pari floating on the surface of snow. The screenplay then focuses on these three characters and their undying spirit of loving one another till the borders of sanity.

Such intricacies and such densities of emotional heights can only be achieved by someone who has seen love at its very core. Yash Chopra sahib was one such individual and was a force of nature that will resonate his love for cinema in the walls of cine-fraternity for a long time to come. Ain’t he a genius? The sumptuous background wrapped around by the elegiac lines penned by Gulzar; Aren’t these the fundamental ingredients of a grand love story? The chords are pulled off at the right moments to strike a perfect balance between unconditional love and tragedies that go with it. The direction of JTHJ, in one word is, awe-inspiring!

Are we talking about giving a depth to the character? Who can accomplish that in a more profound manner than Shahrukh Khan! If Yash Raj can melt hearts, Shahrukh Khan can win them over by just a mere smile. He slips himself in the shoes of Samar to give us an unparalleled performance that thrives as the soul of JTHJ.

Anushka Sharma gave her best performance till date. Amidst such heavy names, she garners appreciation as the new-age-girl, who’s hesitant in falling in love with an already wounded man. Such was the energy and such was the charisma of her that she totally owned the screen whenever she made an appearance.

Well, its time people take this lady seriously. Katrina Kaif is now truly in the house with the other biggies. Carrying at once, both contemporary and retro feel, she touches one’s heart with ease.

When such majestic people are at work, the magic rarely fails. But, what went wrong with JTHJ is its runtime. Clocking around 3 hours, it feels cumbersome at times as some tête-à-têtes seem fruitless. The pacing, especially in the mid of first and second halves, lagged intolerably. Music, by A.R. Rahman, does not blows one off the hanger, but still, keeps one hooked on to the proceedings.

JTHJ recalls an earlier era when movies moved people, rather than manipulate them; and when the innocence superseded craft. A baggage full of towering performances, sweeping vistas, impeccable direction and a gigantic heart at its core, JTHJ is a beautiful ode to the essence of life.
